⚡ Renewable Energy · Interview Series
| |
„We decided to return in 2027 because we believe this exhibition has become one of the most important meeting points for Romania’s green energy industry. GREEN ENERGY EXPO & ROMENVIROTEC brings together manufacturers, distributors, installers, project developers, public authorities and investors, facilitating dialogue and the exchange of experience.”

— Daniel Nica, General Manager – WattRO Energy
Daniel Nica, General Manager – WattRO Energy, shares his perspective on the development of Romania’s renewable energy sector in the latest interview in our „Industry Insights” series.
From solar, energy storage and wind to energy efficiency, geothermal, hydrogen and energy efficiency solutions, Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec connects technology with the projects where it can be implemented.
Green Energy Expo is part of a unique ecosystem where energy meets the industries that produce it, integrate it, consume it and invest in its development. Through Romenvirotec Expo and Smart City Tech, it also connects with water, waste management and Waste-to-Energy, the circular economy, mobility, green infrastructure, buildings and energy efficiency — working together to build the City of the Future.

How do you see Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec contributing to accelerating the energy transition and the adoption of new technologies?
| |
Industry-focused events play an essential role in market development because they create a space where technology, practical experience and the real needs of end users come together. GREEN ENERGY EXPO & ROMENVIROTEC brings together manufacturers, distributors, installers, project developers, public authorities and investors, facilitating dialogue and the exchange of experience. In an industry that is evolving so rapidly, direct access to information and the latest technologies is extremely valuable. From our perspective, events like these also help build confidence in new technological solutions. A practical demonstration, a technical discussion or a face-to-face meeting with specialists can accelerate adoption far more effectively than any promotional material. In addition, exhibitions facilitate the development of long-term partnerships and create opportunities for collaboration between companies in Romania and other European markets, helping to strengthen the green energy ecosystem as a whole.

What value has your participation in previous editions brought, and what made you decide to return as an exhibitor at Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2027?
| |
Participating in previous editions gave us the opportunity to strengthen relationships with existing partners and connect with new installers, project developers and companies interested in the solutions we distribute. At the 2027 edition, we will also showcase the latest solutions in our portfolio, including Chisage and Deye hybrid inverters and energy storage systems, together with our technical team, giving visitors the opportunity to see practical demonstrations and discuss how these technologies can be integrated into residential and commercial projects.
For us, a trade show is about much more than presenting products. It is an opportunity to have practical technical discussions, gain a better understanding of market challenges and identify where demand is heading. Direct feedback from industry professionals is extremely valuable and helps us continuously adapt our portfolio and services. We decided to return in 2027 because we believe this exhibition has become one of the most important meeting points for Romania’s green energy industry. It provides the right environment for exchanging ideas, developing new partnerships and showcasing the latest technological solutions. At the same time, our participation reflects our commitment to actively contributing to the development of the local and regional market by providing modern solutions for energy generation and storage and supporting an energy transition built on innovation, quality and collaboration.

What is the biggest opportunity Romania is currently missing in the energy sector?
| |
Romania has one of Europe’s most significant energy opportunities, yet it is still not fully leveraging its potential. In recent years, there has been a strong focus on installing new generation capacity, but we believe the next step must be the intelligent use of the energy produced. We are already seeing an increasing number of prosumers and significant investment in solar PV plants, but infrastructure and the way energy is consumed and stored are evolving at a slower pace. Without modern energy storage and management solutions, some of the energy generated is fed into the grid when it is not needed and then purchased back during periods of high consumption. In our view, Romania should accelerate investment in energy storage systems at residential and commercial level, as well as at industrial scale. Batteries are no longer simply an add-on to a solar PV system; they are becoming an essential component of grid stability and greater energy independence. At the same time, policies need to provide investors with predictability, alongside closer collaboration between authorities, distributors, manufacturers and the private sector. Romania has the resources, the expertise and investor interest. What is missing is the speed at which these elements are brought together.

What change could completely transform the energy market over the next five years?
| |
We believe the biggest transformation will come from integrating energy storage with renewable generation and from digitalising the way energy is managed. Until now, the focus has been on generating energy. In the coming years, the competitive advantage will belong to those who can decide when to generate, when to store and when to consume energy, using intelligent systems that optimise costs in real time. We expect batteries to become a standard component in an increasing number of projects, while hybrid solutions will be widely adopted by both businesses and residential users. At the same time, artificial intelligence and software platforms will play an increasingly important role in monitoring and optimising energy consumption. We are already seeing this reflected in market demand. We are observing growing interest in hybrid systems and energy storage solutions, such as those developed by international manufacturers like Chisage and Deye, as users are no longer looking only for solar PV panels, but for complete energy management solutions. We believe the market will gradually move from simply installing equipment towards delivering complete energy ecosystems in which generation, storage, monitoring and consumption are integrated into a single solution.

What is your outlook for the energy sector through 2036?
| |
By 2036, we believe renewable energy will become the standard rather than the alternative. Solar PV and energy storage systems will be a standard part of residential, commercial and industrial infrastructure, while investment in energy efficiency will continue to grow. We will see rapid expansion in energy storage capacity, the development of energy communities and much stronger integration between local generation and smart grids. At the same time, electric mobility and the electrification of energy consumption will create additional demand for flexible and reliable solutions. We believe Romania has the potential to become an important regional player in green energy, benefiting both from its geographical position and its strong potential for renewable energy generation. Success, however, will depend on a stable regulatory framework, investment in infrastructure and the ability of the entire ecosystem — authorities, manufacturers, distributors, installers and users — to work together to develop a mature and predictable market.
