Waste Management Edition

“Romenvirotec creates a platform where authorities, consultants, operators, contractors, technology providers, Extended Producer Responsibility Organizations (EPR schemes) and NGOs can engage directly and identify concrete solutions.”

Eng. Ioan Corneliu Hentiu, Technical Director at INOVECO, shares his perspective on the development of Romania’s waste management sector in the latest interview in our “Industry Insights” series.

At Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2027, we are dedicating an exhibition area to waste management solutions and technologies – Romenvirotec Waste.

“We are returning to Romenvirotec in 2027 because we see the event as a relevant meeting point for the industry and an important source of ideas, contacts and opportunities for collaboration.”

The Interview

1

How does the Romenvirotec exhibition sector contribute to promoting innovative solutions for waste management and the circular economy?

“For me, one of the most important contributions of Romenvirotec is that it brings together, in one place, virtually the entire industry ecosystem. On the one hand, it facilitates access to the Romanian market for international providers of advanced technologies.

On the other, it creates a platform where public authorities, consultants, operators, contractors, technology providers, Extended Producer Responsibility Organizations (EPR schemes), and NGOs can engage directly and identify concrete solutions. This is exactly the kind of platform we need to help good ideas turn into real projects more quickly.”

2

What value has your participation in previous editions brought to your company, and what prompted you to return as an exhibitor at Romenvirotec 2027?

“For us, participating in previous editions has been valuable from two perspectives. First, it gave us the opportunity to present our solutions and engage directly with professionals who face the industry’s real-world challenges on a daily basis. Second, it was an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest technologies and emerging trends in the market.

We are returning to Romenvirotec in 2027 because we see the event as a relevant meeting point for the industry and an important source of ideas, contacts, and opportunities for collaboration.”

3

What is the biggest challenge facing the waste management industry today?

“From my perspective, one of the biggest challenges is the management of biodegradable waste. We still face a significant shortfall, both in terms of infrastructure investment — including separate collection, anaerobic digestion, and composting — and at the legislative level.

In particular, the lack of implementing regulations for the Composting Law limits our ability to effectively integrate compost and digestate into the circular economy. In practice, we have resources that could be put to much better use, but we are still missing some of the tools needed to make this possible.”

4

What is the greatest opportunity Romania can seize?

“I believe Romania’s greatest opportunity is to change the way we view waste: rather than seeing it simply as a problem that needs to be solved, we should see it as a resource capable of generating value.

The technologies already exist. They are available and have been proven in other markets. What we need is to accelerate investment and have the confidence to implement these solutions on a larger scale. This is where I see significant potential for the development of the circular economy in Romania.”

5

What is your prediction for the waste management sector over the next 10 years?

“I am optimistic about the sector’s development. I believe that over the next 10 years, we will see the industry modernise at an accelerated pace and significantly narrow the gap with other European Union countries. We can expect new investments, more advanced technologies, and an increasingly professionalised market. From an economic perspective, I expect the sector’s turnover to grow severalfold, precisely because the demand for efficient and sustainable solutions will continue to increase.”

Solutions that are transforming the industry deserve to be seen.

If your company’s portfolio includes technologies, equipment, or solutions for waste management and the circular economy, Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2027 is where you can put them in front of authorities, operators, investors, and strategic industry partners.
