The Interview

1

What is the main challenge in developing modern green roofs in Romania?

„The main challenge is that these systems need to be considered from the very early stages of the design process. A green roof is much more than vegetation, it involves the building structure, waterproofing, drainage, and the way stormwater is managed.

At the same time, the development of this type of infrastructure in Romania is also hindered by the lack of policies and support programmes comparable to those in place across many European countries. In numerous countries, financial incentives, planning requirements and local strategies actively encourage the implementation of green roofs. In Romania, such initiatives are still limited, and the market is developing primarily through private investment and growing interest from developers.

If these aspects are addressed from the design stage and supported by coherent public policies, green roofs can become an increasingly common solution in new developments.”

2

What major stormwater-related risks should we be concerned about over the next 10 years? What solutions could we implement?

„In recent years, we have increasingly experienced periods of very intense rainfall, while existing infrastructure is not always equipped to handle large volumes of water quickly enough. This can lead to localised flooding and put significant pressure on drainage and sewerage networks.

We cannot prevent torrential rainfall, but we can reduce its impact by managing water where it falls. Part of the solution can be addressed at the source, through systems that temporarily retain water on buildings. Green roofs, blue roofs and combined systems can reduce the volume of water reaching public drainage networks immediately and contribute to more effective stormwater management.”

What motivated you to become an exhibitor at Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2027?

„We chose to participate because it is a relevant event for our industry and a valuable opportunity to showcase our solutions for green roofs and stormwater management.

We want to engage directly with architects, designers, developers and contractors, answer their questions and demonstrate how these systems can be integrated into new developments as well as renovation and refurbishment projects.”

The solutions shaping the future of water management belong at the forefront of the industry.
